5-Day Tanzania’s Wild Heart

OVERVIEW

THREE ICONS. ONE WILD JOURNEY.

Five days takes you straight to the heart of northern Tanzania.

Begin among Tarangire’s elephants and ancient baobabs before travelling into the Serengeti for two nights surrounded by its vast plains and extraordinary wildlife. Finish with a descent into Ngorongoro Crater, where an entire ecosystem unfolds beneath the walls of an ancient volcano.

With a private 4Ă—4, your own Wildpack guide and comfortable lodges and tented camps along the way, this journey balances adventure with just enough comfort.

It is the classic Tanzania safari for a reason.

DAY 01 / TARANGIRE - BENEATH THE BAOBABS.

Meet your Wildpack guide in Arusha and head toward Tarangire National Park for your first taste of the Tanzanian wilderness.

The park has a character all its own. Giant baobabs rise from the landscape, elephants wander between the trees and the Tarangire River draws wildlife from across the surrounding ecosystem.

Spend the day exploring in search of elephants, giraffes, zebra, wildebeest, buffalo and antelope. Lions and leopards also inhabit the park, while its varied habitats support exceptional birdlife.

Stop for lunch along the way and continue your game drive into the afternoon before heading to your lodge or tented camp.

DAY 02 / SERENGETI - INTO THE ENDLESS.

After breakfast, travel toward the Ngorongoro Highlands and continue across the conservation area toward Serengeti National Park.

It is a beautiful transition.

Green highlands gradually give way to open grasslands, distant hills and an increasingly enormous sky.

Enter the Serengeti and begin game driving toward your camp. Wildlife can appear anywhere along the way, from giraffes crossing the plains to lions resting around rocky kopjes and cheetahs scanning the grass for prey.

Depending on the season, you may also encounter concentrations of wildebeest and zebra moving through the wider Serengeti ecosystem.

Arrive at your tented camp toward evening and settle in as the plains grow quiet around you.

DAY 03 / SERENGETI - LET THE WILD CHOOSE THE ROAD.

Today, there is no destination to reach.

Set out early and spend the day exploring the Serengeti according to wildlife activity. Your guide will use tracks, animal behaviour, recent sightings and local knowledge to decide where to concentrate the day’s game drive.

Search for lions, leopards and cheetahs alongside elephants, giraffes, hyenas and the enormous variety of grazing animals that sustain the ecosystem.

Stop for a picnic lunch in the park, or return to camp for a relaxed midday break depending on your preferred pace.

Then head back out.

Some sightings last five minutes. Others make switching off the engine for an hour feel completely reasonable.

Today has room for both.

DAY 04 / NGORONGORO - LEAVE THE PLAINS. NOT THE WILD.

Wake for another morning in the Serengeti and head out for a final game drive across the plains.

The route toward Ngorongoro remains part of the safari, so there is no need to put the camera away. Wildlife continues along the road as you travel east.

Gradually, the seemingly endless Serengeti gives way to the rising landscapes of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

Continue toward your lodge in the highlands and enjoy a slower evening before tomorrow’s early descent into the crater.

DAY 05 / NGORONGORO CRATER - ONE WORLD WITHIN ANOTHER.

Start early and descend approximately 600 metres from the crater rim to the floor below.

Ngorongoro is unlike anywhere else on this journey. Grasslands, woodland, wetlands and freshwater pools exist within the walls of the ancient caldera, supporting an extraordinary concentration of wildlife.

Spend the morning searching for lions, buffalo, wildebeest, zebra, hippos and hyenas. The crater is also one of Tanzania’s important habitats for the endangered black rhino.

Enjoy a picnic lunch before continuing your final game drive.

Later, climb back to the rim and begin the journey toward Arusha.

Five days. Three landscapes.

And probably one animal you are still talking about by dinner.
