7-Day The Classic Tanzania Safari
OVERVIEW
A WEEK IN WILD TANZANIA.
Seven days gives you something valuable on safari: variety without the rush.
Start beneath the green slopes of Mount Meru in Arusha National Park, then move into Tarangire’s baobab country before travelling deep into the Serengeti. Two full days among the plains leave time for big cats, quiet sightings and whatever surprises the wilderness decides to arrange.
Finish inside Ngorongoro Crater, one of the most extraordinary wildlife landscapes in Africa.
With your own vehicle and Wildpack guide throughout, this is our take on the classic Northern Circuit: comfortable, personal and wild in all the right places.
DAY 01 / ARUSHA NATIONAL PARK - START SOMEWHERE GREEN.
Meet your Wildpack guide and make the short journey from Arusha into one of northern Tanzania’s most underrated parks.
Arusha National Park feels entirely different from the savannah landscapes ahead. Forest covers the lower slopes of Mount Meru, giraffes wander across open clearings and black-and-white colobus monkeys move through the canopy overhead.
Explore the Momella Lakes and surrounding landscapes, keeping watch for buffalo, zebra, giraffes, warthogs and the park’s rich birdlife.
If conditions and your itinerary allow, a guided walking safari can also be arranged for a different first encounter with the wilderness.
Return to your lodge toward evening.

DAY 02 / TARANGIRE - ENTER ELEPHANT COUNTRY.
After breakfast, leave Arusha and travel southwest toward Tarangire National Park.
Soon, the forested slopes of yesterday feel a world away.
Giant baobabs rise from the dry landscape and elephants move through woodland toward the Tarangire River. Spend the day exploring in search of large elephant families, giraffes, zebra, wildebeest, buffalo and antelope.
Lions are regularly encountered here, while patient eyes may also find leopards resting among the branches.
Enjoy lunch during the game drive before continuing through the afternoon.
OVERNIGHT
Midrange Lodge / Tented Camp, Tarangire or Karatu Area

DAY 03 / SERENGETI - THE LANDSCAPE LOSES ITS EDGES.
Today, travel through the Ngorongoro Highlands and across the conservation area toward the Serengeti.
Watch the scenery transform along the way.
Highland farmland gives way to open country. The road stretches further. The sky becomes enormous.
Then comes the Serengeti.
Enter the national park and begin game driving toward your camp, looking for lions, elephants, giraffes, cheetahs and the grazing herds scattered across the plains.
Depending on the season, wildebeest and zebra from the Great Migration may also be moving through this part of the ecosystem.
Arrive at your tented camp as evening settles across the plains.

DAY 04 / SERENGETI - GO WHERE THE WILD GOES.
Wake early and head into the plains.
Today is entirely dedicated to the Serengeti, with no destination waiting at the other end of the road.
Your guide will use tracks, recent sightings and wildlife behaviour to decide where to explore. Search around rocky kopjes for lions, along riverine woodland for leopards and across open grasslands for cheetahs.
Elephants, giraffes, hyenas and enormous numbers of grazing animals complete a landscape that rarely stays quiet for long.
Enjoy a picnic lunch in the bush or return to camp for a relaxed break before continuing into the afternoon.

DAY 05 / SERENGETI - THE SECOND DAY CHANGES EVERYTHING.
By now, you have stopped simply looking at the Serengeti.
You are beginning to notice it.
The tracks crossing the road. The alarm calls from antelope. Vultures circling somewhere in the distance. A guide slowing the vehicle because something about the landscape doesn’t quite look ordinary.
Spend another full day exploring, allowing the wildlife to determine the rhythm.
During migration periods, your guide may travel farther in search of the great herds. At other times, resident wildlife and the Serengeti’s remarkable predator population provide more than enough reason to keep exploring.
Return to camp for your final evening on the plains.

DAY 06 / NGORONGORO - FROM THE PLAINS TO THE HIGHLANDS.
Head out for one final morning game drive as you begin travelling east.
There is no hard border between safari and transfer today. The road remains surrounded by wildlife, so every kilometre can still bring another sighting.
Gradually, the endless plains begin to rise toward Ngorongoro.
Continue into the cooler highlands and settle into your lodge near the crater.
The evening is intentionally slower. Have a good meal, watch the light disappear over the highlands and rest.
Tomorrow, the road drops 600 metres.

DAY 07 / NGORONGORO CRATER - FINISH INSIDE AN ANCIENT WORLD.
Start early and descend into Ngorongoro Crater.
The enormous volcanic caldera contains grasslands, forest, wetlands and freshwater pools, creating habitat for an exceptional concentration of wildlife.
Spend the morning exploring in search of lions, buffalo, zebra, wildebeest, hippos and hyenas. The crater also provides an opportunity to search for the endangered black rhino.
Pause for a picnic lunch before continuing your final game drive.
Eventually, climb back to the crater rim and turn toward Arusha.
Seven days ago, you started beneath Mount Meru.
Now you’ve crossed elephant country, slept beside the Serengeti and driven across the floor of an ancient volcano.
That’s quite a week.
