6-Day Fly With the Migration
OVERVIEW
DON’T CHASE DISTANCE. CHASE THE SEASON.
The Great Migration is constantly moving.
This safari is designed to move with it.
Instead of spending valuable days driving across northern Tanzania, fly directly from Arusha to the Serengeti region best positioned for the migration during your travel dates.
That could mean the southern plains around Ndutu during calving season, the central and western corridors as the herds move north, or the remote northern Serengeti during the Mara River season.
Five nights in migration country means this journey isn’t built around one hurried attempt to find the herds.
You have time.
And in the wild, time changes everything.
DAY 01 / ARUSHA → SERENGETI - TAKE OFF. FIND THE HERDS.
Your safari begins at Arusha Airport.
Board a scheduled light aircraft bound for the Serengeti airstrip best positioned for your seasonal migration itinerary.
From the window, northern Tanzania unfolds beneath you before the wilderness takes over.
Land at a remote bush airstrip and meet your safari guide.
Then start immediately.
Your transfer to camp doubles as your first game drive, introducing you to the landscape and beginning the search for the herds.
Arrive at your luxury seasonal camp later in the day.
Five nights.
One enormous wilderness.
Let’s see what it’s doing.

DAY 02 / GREAT MIGRATION - FIND THE MOVING WILD.
Head out early while the landscape is cool and wildlife is active.
Your guide will use current herd movements, tracks and recent wildlife activity to shape the day’s route.
Sometimes the migration appears gradually.
A few wildebeest.
Then hundreds.
Then a horizon that seems to be moving.
But the spectacle extends beyond the herds themselves.
Lions, cheetahs, leopards and hyenas all respond to this enormous movement of prey through the ecosystem.
Stay out with a picnic lunch or return to camp for a midday pause before continuing later.

DAY 03 / GREAT MIGRATION - FOLLOW WHAT CHANGED OVERNIGHT.
The migration you went to sleep beside may not be in quite the same place this morning.
That’s the point.
Head out again and follow the latest movement.
During calving season, your day may revolve around nursery herds and intense predator activity across the southern plains.
During northern migration season, the search may lead toward river systems and enormous concentrations of wildebeest gathering near crossing points.
No two seasons behave exactly alike.
No two mornings do either.

DAY 04 / GREAT MIGRATION - WAIT FOR THE MOMENT.
Today is about something safari itineraries rarely advertise.
Waiting.
Because extraordinary wildlife encounters often begin with doing absolutely nothing.
During northern season, herds may approach the Mara River and stop. They may retreat. They may gather in astonishing numbers before one animal finally commits.
A crossing may happen.
Or it may not.
Elsewhere, patience might reveal a hunt developing, a leopard emerging from cover or elephants slowly approaching a water source.
We don’t manufacture the moment.
We give it enough time to happen.

DAY 05 / SERENGETI - ONE MORE DAY. NO BACKUP PLAN.
Your final full day remains completely open to the wild.
Return to the herds if conditions are promising, explore a quieter corner of the ecosystem or spend the morning searching for predators away from the largest concentrations.
You can also add an optional hot-air balloon safari, depending on camp location and seasonal balloon operations.
Afterward, reconnect with your guide and continue exploring.
By late afternoon, find somewhere beautiful for one final sundowner.
The Serengeti does sunsets rather well.

DAY 06 / SERENGETI → ARUSHA - THE HERDS CONTINUE. YOU TAKE THE SKY.
Wake for one final morning in migration country.
Depending on your flight schedule, enjoy breakfast followed by a short game drive toward the airstrip.
Then board your scheduled bush flight back to Arusha.
From above, the plains stretch beneath the aircraft and eventually disappear behind you.
The wildebeest won’t notice you’ve left.
They have somewhere to be.
